How a Car Starter Works
A starter in an internal-combustion engine, is a device that is used to initiate the engine’s operation under its own power. It consists of a powerful DC (Direct Current) electric motor, a starter solenoid that is attached to the motor, and it’s powered by the car battery.

The solenoid is what takes the battery power and delivers it to the starter motor. It also pushes the starter gear frontwards, allowing it to mesh with the gear teeth of the engine’s flywheel.
