Planetary Gear System – how does this system work?
Planetary Gear System also called epicyclic gearing train consists of two gears. These two are mounted in a way that the center of one revolves around the center of the other. What connects the two centers of the gears is a carrier. It rotates to carry one gear, which is called planet gear, around the other gear, known as the sun gear.
Furthermore, the sun and planet gears mesh so their pitch circles can roll without a slip. Simply put, the planetary gear can be seen as the one that’s rolling around the sun, while the sun gear as the fixed one. Of course, the planetary gear system can be assembled to fit certain needs.
