Introducing the turbofan engine – How does it work?
The turbofan engine is a kind of an air-breathing jet engine that is mostly used in aircraft propulsion. The word ‘turbofan’ derives from the words ‘fan’ and turbo’. The turbo-part of the name refers to a gas turbine engine. This engine takes mechanical energy from the combustion. On he other hand, the fan-part refers to a ducted fan that uses that energy to accelerate air rearwards.
Namely, this engine is the most modern variation of the well-known gas turbine engine and it’s pretty efficient.
Most modern airlines use it nowadays, mostly because of its good fuel efficiency. Check it out!
